No matter if I set autoindex_exact_size to on or off i get the same result, I get the exact size in bytes, but I want it in Human readable format.
The only thing that changes is that the size column moves a little but to the left/right when I toggle it on/off.

root html;
index index.html index.htm;

autoindex on;
autoindex_exact_size on;

}

I also compiled nginx 1.0.0 (stable)
Any ideas?

Does the same using "apt-get install nginx" on debian squeeze (stable) vanilla install
