This reminds me of a situation I had with a non-NginX set-up. Issues with OpenLDAP accessing nested groups on Active Directory.
Under Apache, you need to add a specific "AuthLDAPSubGroupDepth 1" to browse through nested groups.
I never used nginx-auth-ldap, but I guess you should have a similar option.

No, there is not.
This is caused by the fact that NTLM takes into account the connection details to authorize the session. If your next request comes via nother TCP channel, you will be faced with a new password prompt.
The way I solved the problem is twofold :
- enable "Basic" authorization scheme on the IIS server
