you're right, it looks like cache isn't the problem.

> proxy_cache_path /www/cache levels=1:2 keys_zone=www:2048m inactive=5m
> max_size=5m;

This is probably unrelated, but this line means that you're using 2GB of
shared memory for in-process cache keys tree and that cache can take only
5MB of your disk.
