Is it true that for a forum like vbulletin or invision Apache is faster for dynamic php requests than Nginx?

I was read that the reason is this:

"fast-cgi is a bottleneck for nginx"

Is there any solution for this and what is the best configuration for Nginx?
( Nginx-Php-fpm ? )
