SMTP AUTH and load balancing with nginx
August 09, 2012 10:27PM
Hi to all, I am a newbie on nginx and I have some questions because I could find an answer in the docs.

I have two postfix backends and I want to nginx to work as an SMTP proxy with AUTH and load balance the traffic between them.

Do I need to set up SMTP AUTH on the backends? I hear that nginx does not pass SMTP AUTH unless you use this patch here:
http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?29,224744,224744#msg-224744
Is that right?

Are there are any alternative methods to achieve SMTP AUTH? XCLIENT seems to be another alternative. Any idea how is this worging and some possible nginx configurations

Can you please clarify on the above?
