I was able to easily replicate this issue, and the cgi.fix_pathinfo=0 fix did NOT work on my systems. Adding: location ~ \..*/.*\.php$ { return 403; } Did solve the issue however. I want nginx to cache certain pages for X numbers of seconds. I dont want to setup two instances of nginx and have one proxy to another just so I can use proxy cacheing.
