The only reason I need haproxy in my software stack is for "cookie persistence" and "first" load balancing. I'd like to use nginx instead. Can I do the equivalent of haproxy "cookie persistence" in nginx by testing if the request has a cookie set and then testing this cookie's value to decide which upstream to use? Seems possible to me. As for haproxy's "firstby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
Good idea of measuring actual response time, but I'm just looking to for a more crude limit of setting a maximum number of concurrent requests for the localhost server before requests are "bounced" to another backend. But, do you know how to do the "response time" limit within NGINX? Or, do I need to do this test with scripts outside NGINX and have all load balancers that sby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
I really want to ensure that my web servers are not overloaded. Can I do this with nginx? That is, is there a variable I could test to decide whether nginx should send the request to the local PHP backend or to forward the request to other nginx servers in the server farm, based on the load of the PHP backend? Maybe a variable that contains how many concurrent requests to nginx are waiting forby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
I'm new to this mailing list, but have used nginx for simple websites for years. Now, I am planning a more complicated website which will require multiple upstream servers and more dynamic reconfiguration events. I see that there are several third party health check modules available, but I would like to use only "officially" supported nginx modules. The purpose of this message is to request a new feature be added to NGINX - "first" load balancing algorithm and MAXCONN setting for upstream servers. I am setting up a new site that will require multiple upstream servers and load balancing. I plan to use ip_hash load balancing on frontend servers to do simple load balancing to the backend servers. I'd like to be able to test if the server time is between two times (like between 4am and 4:30am) to automatically serve up a maintenance page without sending the request to a backend server. I'd also like to be able to specify time ranges for different upstream servers such that nginx would gracefully switch to a different set during the specified times. This could be used to DOWN some of the dby ktwalrus - Ideas and Feature Requests
No more 502s here. I guess it is fixed by the downgrade.by ktwalrus - Site Suggestions
The link in the original post ( http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?2,4743 ) now works for me. I think it fixed itself when a new reply was added to the thread. My other topic still shows 502 Bad Gateway ( http://forum.nginx.org/read.php?2,4677 ). This happens in Safari, Firefox, and Opera (all latest versions, the only ones I have installed) on Mac OS X. I posted a few topics to the mailing list through this forum and I get a "502 Bad Gateway" message from nginx when I try to view the topic. I'm not sure if others have the same problem viewing my topics, but I thought I'd post it here just in case it is a bug. I just made some progress on my Safari refresh problem. IP.Board has a new feature that "minifies" all served .js and .css files served up for the page. These files are loaded by a dynamic url that looks like: http://communities.my.walr.us/public/min/index.php?f=public/js/ipb.js,public/js/ips.quickpm.js,public/js/ips.facebook.js,public/js/ips.signin.js,cache/lang_cache/1/ipb.lang.by ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
I downgraded to nginx 0.7.61 but the result is the same. If I load a page in the IP.Board forum within 10 seconds, Safari gives a blank page (or within 15 seconds of the reload of the blank page), but Firefox doesn't have this problem. I disabled the gzip content encoding but this didn't make any difference either. The only difference I can see between the Safari HTTP Response headers and tby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
I've got a strange problem with Mac OS X 10.5.7 Safari 4.0.2 browsing to my server running nginx 0.8.7. I updated all software on my Centos 5 server including IPB 3.0.1. If I refresh a page in the forum within 10 seconds, I only get a blank page. If I refresh again (or browse to another link that has the same URL but different query strings) within 15 seconds, the page stays blank. If I getby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
This is probably a stupid question, but when I use nginx to proxy and HTTP request to a server in another geographic location, does the HTTP response go directly to the requester's IP address or does it route back through the nginx proxy server? I'm getting ready to split my site into two locations (West Coast and East Coast of the US) and I want to redirect requests to the closest geographic sby ktwalrus - Nginx Mailing List - English
I need to implement some atomic counters (where the counter is persistent across server reboots/crashes) to scale to lots of hits per second to update the counter as GET requests to a web available global server. I need these counters to have fairly low latency. Since I already use nginx as my web server, I was thinking it might be the best place to implement this web service.
