php-fpm restart 4 times a day

php-fpm restart 4 times a day
October 17, 2013 12:26PM
Hello

Do you know about any setting in hp-fpm that will restart the server at
regular intervals?

I have a server that close all children and restarts at hours 12, 18, 0 and
6 each day no matter what and it's driving me crazy.

Any hints appreciated...

Thank you

Why do you think it's restarting? How do you detect it?
What do you see in php-fpm.log ?

This means exactly what it says: something/somebody sent a SIGTERM to the process.

This does look like a cron job to me.

Check out /etc/crontab and `crontab -e` from root.

Right.
That's what you should get if you use restart instead of reload (aka graceful restart).

That's what I have been investigating, however, the only cron is logrotate
with a config like this

/var/log/php-fpm/*log {
size 5M
missingok
notifempty
sharedscripts
delaycompress
weekly
postrotate
/bin/kill -SIGUSR1 `cat /var/run/php-fpm/php-fpm.pid 2>/dev/null`
2>/dev/null || true
endscript
}

Right, this signal tells FPM to reopen the error log.

Could it be that some other user sends SIGTERM?
Which user is used by FPM itself?

"no crontab for apache"

- Check the size of the log files under /var/log/php-fpm/* before the
SIGTERM usually would occur - it might be reaching the 5M limit that you
could increase if you have more disk space available.

- Also tail the logs (cron | php | http | messages ) that time for any
further hints.

- Verify cron.hourly or .daily tasks as well.

Maybe the restart isn't being initiated by a cron job on this system but
from another. There could certainly be a cron job on a different system
connecting and issuing a command via ssh/rsh etc.

This could also be some type of control panel based system, cpanel/plesk
etc, that stores scheduling jobs in unusual places.
