I'm getting these errors here:

Some history - I was on PHP 5.2.10 - the Ubuntu package. I compiled
php-fpm as a module, against this (apt-get source php5-common, then
pointed the fpm build to that). I saw a dotdeb package for PHP 5.3.2,
with a module compiled for php-fpm, so I said why not try it. I was
using it for a while, but it would stop responding after some time. So
I decided to go back to the Ubuntu package.

So I removed the package (sudo apt-get remove --purge php5-common),
removed the dotdeb repository lines from /apt/sources.list, and did an
update/upgrade, apt-get install php5-common, and the modules (cli,
cgi, mysql, gd, curl), recompiled php-fpm again against. I'm assuming
I've got some library hanging around it doesn't like.

Any ideas?
