Good that it works.

As it happens, the "ls -lLdZ" commands all make it look like it should
have worked -- but because one directory was a symlink to a readable
directory inside a non-readable directory, it failed.

If you had run the "ls" commands as the user www-data, it may have shown
more quickly where the issue was.
