Thanks for the help.

I'm having the same issue from a different computer, and even with
another web server, so it looks like it could be some setting in
Ubuntu that causes this.

At least, I can't think of another cause that would allow a web server
to be reachable on TCP80 but not on TCP8787 altough "netstat" shows
that it's up and running.

I'll keep investigating and report back.
