Error 400 The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port

Hi.
I am quite new to nginx.
My sites run under SSL and have always redirected from http to https without a problem. However, all of a sudden, I get an error "Error: 400 The plain HTTP request was sent to HTTPS port", when browsing to the http://URL. Browsing directly to the https://URL works fine

I have three sites, each has a non-ssl and an ssl config. I have looked in various places (Stack Overflow, for example) for any hints as to what might be wrong, but so far, nothing has resolved the issue.

I'm hoping someone here may have an idea or two that might help.

Many thanks in advance.

N.

Check your config with a backup to see if anything has changed.
Use Curl to make sure its not a browser issue.
