User/Group setup for simple webserver + FTP
November 15, 2010 07:41PM
Hello everyone,

I have successfully set up NginX to server a simple website of my liking. I had no real trouble configuring it, the default were most of the time good.
However now I'd like to host my friend's website as well so I installed pure-ftpd too. My question would be, what is a good approach to set up website dirs, users and groups to handle it well with PHP, NginX and so that FTP can as well write it?

I thought of the following dir structure:
/home
- domain1.tld
\ - www
- domain2.tld
\ - www

where www folders would the the root of the domain's web dir.
So what is suggested to be the user and group for ngingx, and for the those domain dirs so that there would be no chance for the users to read/write each other's files? (no ssh login, only PHP script execution)

thanks
