Supporting proxy transparency via netfilter

I saw only one message posted some time ago about making NGINX into a transparent proxy, in combination with features of the Linux kernel netfilter (like tproxy or nat).

The goal is building a transparent filtering appliance (that is, acting as a router) for both email and web traffic.

I would like to know if this is something being considered for future releases.

Comments on whether this could be possibly already achieved with the current (1.0.0) release with configuration changes or limited code changes would be also greatly appreciated.

I had a similar situation where I had multiple services tied to a single domain/IP. My solution was to use nginx for http traffic and layer 7 routing, and NAT rules in the firewall for my non-http traffic. Works like a charm, was simple to set up, and has been serving a high volume of requests every since.
